Project Light offers Virginia State Tax Credits by being an approved provider through the Neighborhood Assistance Program (“NAP”) in the State of Virginia.
Project Light, an established 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization which has been serving individuals in need in Hampton Roads and the State of Virginia for nearly 30 years, was awarded via the State of Virginia’s Neighborhood Assistance Program (“NAP”) the opportunity to offer to eligible businesses and individuals a forty percent Virginia State tax credit in addition to regular tax deductions when donating to Project Light.
According to the Literacy Partnership’s website, the average adult illiteracy for the seven cities in the Hampton Roads region and
Isle Of Wight
County is 22.6% or 229,159 citizens. The National Institute for Literacy states that 28% of adults over the age of 18 in the City of
Norfolk are illiterate—this is 13% above national average—and 38% are functionally illiterate. These alarming statistics translate into real costs to businesses, taxpayers, families, communities, the state of Virginia and the
U.S. Our organization is dedicated to addressing these important issues.
Any
Virginia resident or business can partner with Project Light and its
Learning
Centers to help address these alarming statistics and help impoverished people to prosper and our communities to flourish. The NAP program allows you to make the most of your donations while investing in reliable programs. All NAP awardees go through a vigorous application and review process before they are approved.
For businesses, NAP guidelines establish the minimum required donation amount of $1,000, resulting in a $400
Virginia
State tax credit. For individuals the amount is $500, resulting in a $200
Virginia
State tax credit. Donors participating in the NAP program may still qualify to take advantage of tax deductions. Project Light is eligible to receive up to $31,250 in donations through the NAP program. We do need to let you know the above are only general guidelines as we cannot provide tax advice, so we encourage you to talk with your accountant as well regarding the tax advantages of these donations. For more information on NAP, please visit the NAP website at http://www.dss.virginia.gov/community/nap/ .
